Nigeria drop three places, ranked 39 in FIFA RANKING

Nigeria women football team have dropped three places in the latest FIFA women ranking for 2019, which was released on Friday.

The African Champions moved from 36 to 39 in the world, but remain the highest ranked team on the continent.

The Falcons failed to go past the third round of the Tokyo 2020 CAF Olympic Qualifiers as they were held by Ivory Coast who were ranked 69th at the time – but moved 6 places up by December.

On the continent, Cameroon are second and ranked 49th in the world while South Africa who are third in Africa are placed 55 on the globe, Ghana and Ivory Coast completed the top five and are ranked 60 and 63 respectively.

Equatorial Guinea (71) Morocco (81), Mali (82) and Algeria (84) and Congo (101) occupy the top 10 spots in Africa.

Elsewhere, Kenya were one of the biggest movers following a CECAFA Women’s Cup triumph, climbing up 10 spots to 133rd place, along with Uganda (seven places up) to 142nd, Tanzania (two places up) to 144th.

Meanwhile, World Champions USA hold on to the top spot with Germany, Netherlands, France and Sweden making up the World’s Top Five Women’s football senior national teams.

Brazil earned their return to the top 10 list after Friday’s convincing 6-0 victory over Mexico.

It is the year-ending FIFA ranking for Women’s senior national football team, and the next will be published on March 27, 2020.
