Gunmen Suspected to be member of Biafra, set state police command ablaze, release prisoners in Imo state

A group of Gunmen suspected to be member of the indigenous people of Biafra IPOB in the early hour of today invaded Imo state police command at the state capital release prisoners and set part of the station on fire

The gunmen who operated with over 10 vehicles also attacked soldier station at Umuorji along Owerri-Onitsha Expressway.

According to an eyewitness who said the gunmen stormed the place around 1am on Monday mourning April 5 and operated for over two hours.

It was gathered that the gunmen overpowered security operatives on duty at the station and burnt down almost all vehicles parked at the station

They also attacked the nearby office of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Imo state police command and freeing a number of suspects in all the cells and telling them that “Go home, Jesus has risen. You have no reason to be here.”

Meanwhile, the Imo state police spokesperson Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the attacks and said only the SCID session of the command headquarters was attacked by the gunmen and suspects were released.

As the Gunmen seems audacious enough by singing solidarity song at the state government house roundabout for about 30min before matching to attacked the command facilities

IPOB, however, have distance itself from the attack.
